The case for biology

India's NPK application ratio sits at roughly 9 : 3 : 1 against ICAR's recommended 4 : 2 : 1. Two decades of nitrogen-skewed input flow have depleted soil organic carbon, locked phosphorus reserves, and stripped micronutrients across our four pilot states. Chemistry, on its own, cannot rebuild what chemistry depleted.

Biology can. Microbial inoculants restore the rhizosphere's capacity to make nutrients plant-available. Biostimulants prime crops for the climate stress that synthetic chemistry does not address. Biocontrol alternatives close the EU MRL residue gates that chemistry-only protocols cannot pass.

Four converging forces

  1. Policy push — PM-PRANAM, BioE3, PLI for fermentation
  2. Export pressure — EU MRL compliance becomes a procurement gate
  3. Climate volatility — heat, drought, erratic monsoon — outside chemistry's range
  4. Pest resistance — Bt-cotton, imidacloprid, pyrethroid resistance breakdown

Each force on its own is a structural shift. Together, they describe the largest agronomic inflection in Indian agriculture since the Green Revolution.
